I bought this book because I am a historian of the French in New Mexico and in the Southwest. There were many Frenchmen in the Lewis and Clark Expedition, and interactions with the Spaniards further south. This book is a must-have for historians of the conquest of the West, as it is most convenient to help correlate facts and stories. It is a long book. Has a lot of reports on food and other supplies. There are some great parts about the crew getting VD from the indian women and cross dressing gay indians. It was a hell of a trip there and back. These were tough men.
